DOUTHYAM

Douthyam means mission. Comes from the word Dootha, meaning an ambassador.

This is the famous court scene of Krishna's mission toDhritharaashtra and his sons for truce with the Paandavas on fifty-fifty terms if agreeable or for granting 5 towns to Paandavas as their share for survival. Of course, the Kouravas heedded not the mission and summarily rejected any share whatsoever to their cousins. Besides, they even tried to capture Krishna with a view to weakening the Paandavas . Krishna ensnared them with the display of his omnifarious form ( Visva-roopa = omni-form ) and returned to the Paandavas. Thus the great war of colossal distruction became unavoidable.
